New Delhi: Dr Sanjeev Kumar Sinha has assumed charge as director (operations) of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) from 9 March, following his appointment by the Ministry of Mines. He brings over 25 years of experience in the mining sector, having previously worked at NMDC Limited, where he was involved in mine planning, production, lease acquisitions, and digital transformation initiatives. Before joining HCL, he served as head of mine planning and chief of the internal safety organisation at NMDC.

 

An alumnus of Nagpur University, Dr Sinha holds a PhD in mining engineering from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and an MBA in human resources from IGNOU. He is a First-Class Mines Manager under MMR 1961. His research has focused on optimising resource utilisation and extending mine life. He has played a key role in major mining projects, including advancements in iron ore production, mine development, and the integration of technology such as mine planning software and digital tracking systems.

 

Dr Sinha has also represented India at international mining forums, presenting research at the World Mining Congress in Kazakhstan (2018) and Brisbane (2023), and attending PDAC 2023 in Canada. In his new role at HCL, he will oversee operations with a focus on efficiency and strategic growth.
