GAIL set to unveil cutting-edge Natural Gas Meter Prover Facility in October

New Delhi: In a significant step towards enhancing India’s gas-based economy, Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) is preparing to launch a world-class Natural Gas Meter Prover Facility at its Dibiyapur site in Auraiya district, Uttar Pradesh. The facility, slated to be inaugurated in October 2024, is designed to support smaller gas consumers, including city gas distribution (CGD) entities and small industrial and commercial establishments, by offering efficient calibration services for gas meters. This initiative is expected to ensure accurate gas measurement, boost consumer confidence, and contribute to improved gas management and reconciliation.

On 23 August 2024, Director (Projects) Deepak Gupta visited the facility and commended the team for their relentless efforts in bringing the project to the verge of commissioning. Developed in collaboration with RMA Germany and certified by PTB Germany, a globally recognised certification body, the Meter Prover Facility is equipped to calibrate various types of gas meters, including Ultrasonic Flow Meters (USM), Turbine Flow Meters (TFM), and Rotary Positive Displacement (RPD) Flow Meters. It can handle meters ranging from 2 to 6 inches in size, with a flow range of 4 to 2500 cubic metres per hour and pressure ratings between 150# and 300#.

This advanced facility is poised to play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of gas measurements, ultimately aiding in the seamless transition to a gas-based economy. /BI
