Jadui Pitara: A play based learning-teaching material for foundational years

New Delhi: Jadui Pitara has been designed on the motto of ‘learning through play. Toys, puzzles, puppetry, posters, flash cards, worksheets and attractive storybooks are part of the Jadui Pitara launched by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The resources of Jadui Pitara should be made digitally available on the DIKSHA platform, both portal and mobile app. The Jadui Pitara encourages learning and development in five domains, vis-à-vis physical development, socio-emotional and ethical development; cognitive development, language and literacy development; aesthetic and cultural development. The curriculum also includes positive learning habits as another domain of development.

“Jadui Pitara comprising playbooks, toys, puzzles, posters, flash cards, storybooks, worksheets as well as reflecting the local culture, social context and language is designed to pique curiosity and accommodate the diverse needs of learners at the foundational stage, Development under national Curriculum Framework (NCF), the pitara is available in 13 Indian languages”, said Dharmesh Pradhan, Union Education Minister at the launch of Jadui Pitara.

He further added: “It is a giant leap towards enriching the learning-teaching environment and making it more child-centric, lively and joyful for the Amrit generation, as envisioned in the NEP.”

It has been tailored for children between the age group of 3–8 years. NCERT has developed trainers handbook mapping to panch koshiya vikas and curricular goals of NCF-FS for future training of teachers at Foundational Stage.

The Minister urged NCERT as a national think-tank to leverage technology to translate the materials in the Jadui Pitara in all Indian languages and endeavour to expand its reach as well as make it available to all SCERTs for transforming the early childhood care and education scenario of our country.

The salient features of ‘Jadui Pitara’ are as follows:

·CORE transformative aspect of NCF-FS- ‘learn through play’.

·Foundational Stage ~ aged between 3-8 learn best and effectively through Play.

·Research from fields as diverse as Neurosciences to Education.

·Applies to Class 1 and 2 also (age 6-8) ~ children will learn through play, have fun and FLN will be addressed.

·Learning and development in five domains.

·To enable play.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gave a message through his tweet that Jadui Pitara will fill the minds of children with new enthusiasm and colour. /BI/
