BEL’s Akashteer hits the mark, defence gains lift investor interest

New Delhi: Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has found itself in the investor spotlight as its fully automated, AI-driven air defence system, Akashteer, demonstrated high-impact operational success in the face of recent aerial threats. The indigenous system, developed in-house by BEL, was reported to have successfully neutralised drones and other aerial objects that entered Indian airspace during recent attacks from Pakistan.

The company’s stock has surged over 10.21% across five consecutive trading sessions, driven by confidence in BEL’s growing role in national defence modernisation and indigenous capability building.

Akashteer, part of a Rs 1,982 crore contract signed in March 2023, is designed to integrate surveillance assets, radars, and command systems into a real-time, networked air defence grid. It enables secure, low-level airspace surveillance across battle zones and precise control of ground-based weapon systems.

According to BEL, “BEL is proud to announce that our in-house designed and manufactured air defence system, Akashteer, has proved its mettle on the battlefield. Ground-based defence systems integrated with Akashteer made it hell for Pakistan’s air adventures.”

“The system performed beyond users’ expectations, providing robust air defence to India during the current conflict. Akashteer ensures a seamless and unified air situational picture accessible to even the lowest operational units of Army Air Defence, thereby enhancing situational awareness across the force,” it added.

“Akashteer empowers frontline units by enabling dynamic engagement decisions and preventing friendly-fire incidents,” BEL added.

This operational success positions Akashteer not only as a core component of India’s tactical defence grid but also as a benchmark in the global defence technology space.
