New Delhi: Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), one of India's largest public sector enterprises in the energy domain, is continuing to accelerate its strategic initiatives to bolster the country's energy security and infrastructure. As part of this vision, IOCL has awarded a significant work order worth ₹9.17 crore to Konstelec Engineers Ltd (KEL) for a key infrastructure project in Vallur, Tamil Nadu. This project highlights IOCL’s focus on upgrading energy infrastructure across the nation, while also showcasing the rising role of specialized engineering firms in powering India’s growth story.
Konstelec Engineers Ltd, headquartered in Mumbai, is a reputed engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company with nearly three decades of expertise in electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems. Under this newly awarded contract, part of the CCCPL Project, KEL will be responsible for the design, engineering, supply, erection, installation, testing, and commissioning of a 33/6.9 kV, 6 MVA ONAN indoor substation at Vallur Station. The project is expected to be completed within eight months of the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) on April 12, 2025, reflecting a fast-tracked implementation approach.
This development not only strengthens Konstelec’s project portfolio but also aligns with IOCL’s broader efforts to expand its operational footprint in the southern region of India. It complements the company's parallel initiatives, such as its recent LNG procurement tender for deliveries between 2025 and 2029, aimed at securing energy supplies in a volatile global market. IOCL is seeking three cargoes in 2025 and six per year from 2026 to 2029, a move that highlights its proactive planning for long-term energy resilience.
Further reinforcing its role in regional energy diplomacy, IOCL has signed a cross-border agreement to export 240 metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually to Nepal, with transportation facilitated via road. This is a landmark step in enhancing regional energy integration and demonstrates India’s increasing influence in South Asia's energy market.
Together, these developments showcase how IOCL is not only scaling its infrastructure domestically but also playing a strategic role in regional energy cooperation. The involvement of engineering players like Konstelec Engineers is crucial in implementing these large-scale projects, bridging the gap between policy intent and on-ground execution. As India moves toward becoming a global energy hub, such partnerships between state-run energy giants and high-performing EPC firms will be instrumental in achieving national and regional energy goals.
