Itanagar: In Itanagar, a new chapter of community policing has begun with the launch of 'Police Ajin', a unique initiative aimed at promoting trust and transparency between the police and the public. Launched on Thursday, July 25, 2024, this program represents a commitment to creating a safer, more connected city where everyone feels heard and protected.


'Ajin' means unique and merciful, perfectly capturing the essence of this citizen-centric approach. The Superintendent of Police, Itanagar, Rohit Rajbir Singh, IPS, shared the vision behind the initiative in a press release. He shared that with Police Ajin, the Itanagar Police aims to set a new standard of transparency, enhance communication, and build enduring trust with the community to ensure peace and prosperity in the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh.


At the heart of the programme is a series of innovative measures designed to bring the police closer to the community. The two mascots of the 'Police Ajin' program, Rina and Kengo, will assist in conveying the police's message to the public. Community patrols will see officers regularly engaging with residents, providing support and addressing concerns directly. This hands-on approach ensures that the police are seen not just as enforcers of the law, but as integral members of the community who are approachable and ready to help.


Another vital component of the initiative is the Samwad programme, a robust community outreach and problem redressal scheme. Through Samwad, the police will hold public hearings to facilitate open dialogue, allowing residents to voice their concerns and find resolutions in a transparent manner.


The 'Your Voice Matters' campaign places complaint boxes in educational institutions, encouraging students to report incidents of bullying and other issues in a safe and confidential way. By doing so, the police empower young people and promote a culture of openness and accountability.


Chief Minister Pema Khandu complimented the initiative on X, stating, “Building trust and maintaining transparency are essential for effective policing. Kudos to Arunachal Police for launching 'Police Ajin', a citizen-centric initiative in Itanagar. Initiatives like community patrolling, Samwad, public hearings, and 'Your Voice Matters' will further help strengthen law and order in the capital.”
 

With its guiding principles of "Satya, Seva, Suraksha" (Truth, Service, Security), Police Ajin is a significant step by the Arunachal Pradesh Police in providing transparent, responsive, and people-friendly policing. /BI
