Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government announced a pioneering policy aimed at supporting industries, on April 17th, 2025, within the space technology sector through a range of incentives and financial support.
With the introduction of the SpaceTech Policy 2025–2030, Gujarat has become the first Indian state to roll out a dedicated framework for the space sector, according to an official statement.
The policy outlines both fiscal and non-fiscal support for a wide spectrum of space-related activities, including the manufacturing of satellite payloads, communication and propulsion systems, ground stations, satellite control centers, and the development of space-based applications.
To ensure effective implementation, the Gujarat government will partner with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), and the Department of Space. The policy also envisions setting up a Centre for Excellence in Space Technologies to foster skill development, research, and innovation.
Further, the state aims to develop a dedicated space manufacturing park in collaboration with IN-SPACe and the Department of Space. This facility will offer shared technical infrastructure to accelerate the growth of enterprises in the space sector.
The central government had previously opened the space sector to private players in June 2020, establishing IN-SPACe as a single-window agency to facilitate private sector participation. In addition to benefits under the Gujarat Electronics Policy, this new policy offers further financial support for patent filing and launch costs to manufacturers.
Companies working in ground segments, space applications, and system design will be eligible for incentives under the Gujarat IT/ITeS Policy (2022–27). Startups in the space domain will also be supported through the ICT and Deep Tech Startup initiatives under the same policy.
According to the release, the policy is designed to empower investors and entrepreneurs to establish and expand their space ventures in Gujarat. This move aligns with national efforts, including the Indian Space Policy 2023, which promotes FDI and a broader role for the private sector in space-related activities.
