1987-batch IAS officer Amir Subhani is new Chief Secretary of Bihar

Patna: Amir Subhani, an IAS officer of 1987 batch, is the new Chief Secretary of Bihar. Subhani replaces Tripurari Sharan, a 1985 batch IAS officer, retiring on December 31.

Sharan had been appointed the state’s Chief Secretary on May 1 this year after the demise of his predecessor Arun Kumar Singh due to Covid-19. Since then, he had been given two extensions of three months each, one in June and the other in September.

Subhani, the topper of his batch, has enjoyed the confidence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for long, and he is one of the few IAS officers Chief Minister Kumar is known to be close to.

He had been serving as the state’s Home Secretary for many years except for a brief period when former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi removed him from the key post in November 2014.

Subhani, who hails from Siwan district in Bihar, has served as DM in various districts and has held various other key positions including the Development Commissioner of the state. He will retire on April 30, 204. Atul Prasad, an IAS officer of 1987 batch, is the new Development Commissioner.
     
It is worth mentioning that many IAS officers were in the race to grab the top slot including Sanjiv Kumar Sinha, Atul Prasad, Sudhir Kumar, Vivek Kumar Singh, Brajesh Mehrotra, Vandana Kinni, Sanjay Kumar, Chaitanya Prasad, and KK Pathak. /BI/
