Eight IPS officers from former J&K cadre promoted to IGP and DIGP by Ministry of Home Affairs

Srinagar: The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the promotion of eight IPS officers from the former Jammu and Kashmir cadre, now integrated into the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre. These promotions, effective from 1 January 2025 or upon assumption of charge, reflect advancements in ranks and responsibilities within the cadre.

Four officers have been elevated to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP), a significant step recognising their leadership and contributions. Sunil Gupta, currently overseeing crime as IGP Crime in Jammu and Kashmir, has been promoted along with Sujit Kumar, in charge of IGP Security, and Vivek Gupta, who heads IGP Railways. Mohammad Suleman Choudhary, IGP Traffic, completes this group, each playing pivotal roles in maintaining critical aspects of policing and security in the region.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) promotions include Vinod Kumar, responsible for armed operations as DIG Armed in Jammu, and Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, who is currently on deputation to the Government of India, serving as Deputy Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat’s class-I Executive Cadre. Their promotions are a recognition of their contributions to law enforcement and their ability to manage complex operational challenges.

In addition to these senior ranks, Sargun Shukla, Commandant of the IR-15th Battalion, and Sandeep Choudhary, on deputation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Jammu as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), have been placed in the Selection Grade. This highlights their expertise in operational leadership and administrative competence.

The Ministry’s decision to promote these officers reflects their dedication to service and their consistent performance in one of India’s most demanding regions. The recognition comes at a time when the AGMUT cadre continues to play a critical role in ensuring effective governance and security across its jurisdictions.
