Kerala government orders major IPS reshuffle, including 'Kafir' case investigator

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has enacted a significant reshuffle of senior IPS officers, resulting in the transfer of 29 officials. This includes the city police commissioners of Kozhikode and Kollam, as well as seven district police chiefs.

 

Among the transferred officers is Aravind Sukumar, the Superintendent of Police (SP) for Kozhikode Rural, who was involved in the investigation of the ‘Kafir’ case. He has now been reassigned to the Crime Branch. Other SPs affected by the reshuffle include those from Kozhikode Rural, Kasaragod, Kannur Rural, Kottayam, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Wayanad.

 

The reshuffle also sees a structural change, with two IPS officers now serving as Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. Rajpal Meena, who previously served as Deputy Inspector General of Police and Commissioner of Police in Kozhikode City, has been appointed as DCP of Kannur Range. Vivek Kumar, the former Commissioner of Police in Kollam City, has been transferred to the role of Additional Inspector General of Police (Procurement).

 

In further moves, T Narayanan, who was the SP of Wayanad, has been appointed as the Commissioner of Kozhikode. Chaitra Theresa John, previously the SP of Alappuzha, is now the Commissioner of Kollam. Taposh Basumathri, who led rescue operations during a recent landslide, is the new District Police Chief of Wayanad. Nidhin Raj, the former DCP of Thiruvananthapuram City, is now the SP of Kozhikode Rural.

 

D Shilpa has been appointed as the new SP of Kasaragod, Shahal Hameed as the SP of Kottayam, and Sujith Das as the SP of Pathanamthitta. Anuj Paliwal, who served as Deputy Commissioner of Police for Law & Order and Traffic in Kozhikode City, has been posted as District Police Chief of Kannur Rural.

 

Additionally, Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh, the former Commandant of the Kerala Armed Women Police Battalion, has been appointed as DCP for Law & Order 2 in Thiruvananthapuram City. Juvvanapudi Mahesh, who was the SP for Railways, has been transferred to the position of DCP for Law & Order 2 in Kochi City.

 

Other notable transfers include the appointment of Rajpal Meena as DCP Kannur Range, and the reassignment of Vivek Kumar as Additional Inspector General of Police (Procurement). /BI
