Chandigarh: Mandeep Singh Brar, an IAS officer of the Haryana cadre from the 2005 batch, has been officially appointed as the new Home Secretary of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. This appointment follows the endorsement of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ proposal for his inter-cadre deputation by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The position of Home Secretary has been vacant since June 2024.

Prior to this role, Brar served as Director of information and Public Relations in Haryana. Before that, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh from 2018 to 2021, during which he was on a three-year deputation. 

In his capacity as Deputy Commissioner, Brar was responsible for overseeing a wide range of administrative functions and implementing key policies, which provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the local governance and operational challenges within Chandigarh. /BI
