Mandip Brar to take charge as Chandigarh's new Home Secretary

Chandigarh: Haryana cadre IAS officer Mandip Singh Brar has been appointed as the new Home Secretary of the Chandigarh Union Territory Administration. The announcement was made in an official order released by the UT Administration on Saturda y, August 17, 2024.

Brar, who previously served as the Deputy Commissioner in Chandigarh, was on a three-year deputation to the Union Territory beginning in October 2018. He has also been serving as the Director of Information and Public Relations in Haryana.

The positions of Home Secretary and Finance Secretary in the UT Administration have been vacant since June, following the departure of Nitin Yadav and Vijay Namdeorao Zade. The Cabinet's appointment committee has now approved the Ministry of Home Affairs' proposal for Brar’s inter-cadre deputation, leading to his appointment as Home Secretary.

Sources indicated that Brar, along with Amit Agrawal, a 2003-batch IAS officer, was among the frontrunners for the post. Brar’s extensive experience in administration is expected to contribute significantly to his new role in Chandigarh. /BI
