New Delhi: Continuing the festive spirit of the 76th Republic Day, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), in partnership with the Indian Comics Association (ICA), has announced the semi-finalists of the WAVES Comics Creator Championship.

This initiative celebrates the diversity of Indian comics, showcasing the talent of creators from across the country. The geographical spread of the semi-finalists, selected from a vast pool of entries, reflects the reach of the championship, with participants from 50 cities across 20 states and NCR. The selection includes creators from metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, as well as smaller towns and cities such as Anand, Betul, Kalka, Samastipur, and North Eastern cities like Guwahati and Imphal, reinforcing the commitment to promoting talent nationwide.

The semi-finalists, aged between 10 and 49 years, include 40 amateurs and 30 professionals. Six special mentions have been awarded to young artists, demonstrating the championship's focus on nurturing talent at all levels.

Indian Comics Association President Ajitesh Sharma said the association was delighted to collaborate with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to promote Indian comics globally. He described the initiative as a strong example of the government's support for creative industries and emerging talent.

The WAVES Comics Creator Championship is a key event under the MIB's 'Create in India' initiative, aimed at elevating India's creative industries on the global stage. The championship provides Indian comic creators with a platform to engage with international audiences and explore new partnerships.

The MIB and ICA congratulated the 76 semi-finalists and wished them success in the next stage of the championship.
