
New Delhi: The Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) organised a seminar on "UAS Warfare with Special Focus on Counter-UAS" in New Delhi, bringing together senior military officials, policymakers, industry leaders, and security agencies to discuss advancements in unmanned aerial systems and counter-drone strategies. Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, delivering the keynote address, emphasised how drones, driven by rapid developments in robotics and artificial intelligence, are transforming modern warfare by offering cost-effective, high-impact solutions. He stressed the need for a structured approach in classifying UAS and called for a comprehensive Counter-UAS system. Highlighting lessons from ongoing conflicts, he pointed out the growing significance of drone warfare and the necessity of coordination between users, designers, and manufacturers to enhance India’s defence capabilities.
The seminar examined India’s progress in drone technology, with discussions on the role of indigenous development under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Experts shared insights into evolving drone warfare strategies, AI integration, and operational requirements for the Indian Armed Forces. Security concerns related to drone threats along India's northern and western borders and the Indian Ocean Region were also discussed, with a focus on advanced detection and neutralisation systems. Representatives from leading defence companies, including JSW UAV Ltd, Mahindra Defence, Adani Defence Systems, Kepler Aerospace, and Shyam VNL Pvt Ltd, presented counter-UAS solutions aimed at strengthening national security.
Senior officials, including the Vice Chiefs of the Army and Air Force, the Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, and the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, led discussions on counter-drone strategies. The seminar also included representatives from BSF, ITBP, the Coast Guard, and the police, ensuring a multi-agency approach to addressing drone threats. The event featured an exhibition showcasing technological advancements in drone and counter-drone systems, reflecting India’s growing expertise in modern warfare.
