Foreign currency worth Rs 36 lakh detected by CISF at IGI airport

New Delhi: On the basis of behaviour detection, CISF surveillance and intelligence staff at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here noticed suspicious activities of a passenger standing at 'K' row in the check-in area of Terminal 3 on March 23, 2022 at around 4.45 am.

On suspicion, he was diverted at a random checking point near Departure Gate No. 5 by CISF personnel for thorough checking of his luggage. During x-ray screening through the X-BIS machine of his bags, CISF personnel noticed suspicious images inside his baggage, said the CISF in a statement.

Thereafter, the passenger was allowed to complete the check-in process but was kept under close watch through physical and electronic measures. Later he was identified as Saif Ali Khan, leaving for Sharjah by Air Arabia flight G9-462 which was scheduled to depart at 6:50 am. The case was informed to senior CISF and customs officials.

As the passenger cleared his check-in and immigration formalities, he was intercepted and enquired by CISF. On thorough checking of his two baggage, 1,78,000 Saudi Riyals worth Rs 36 lakh in Indian currency were found concealed under the false bottom of his bags. However, in enquiry, he could not produce any valid document to carry such an amount of foreign currency. The said passenger along with the seized currency was handed over to customs officials for further actions, added the CISF. /BI/
