Ministry of Coal to host roadshow in Mumbai on investment opportunities and commercial coal mine auctions

Mumbai: The Ministry of Coal is set to organise a roadshow in Mumbai as part of its ongoing efforts to highlight investment opportunities in the coal sector and commercial coal mine auctions. The event will take place on 28 February at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai. Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy will attend as the chief guest, along with Vikram Dev Dutt, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Rupinder Brar, Additional Secretary, and other senior officials. The event will bring together key stakeholders, industry leaders, and investors to discuss growth opportunities, technological advancements, and sustainable practices in coal mining.

Commercial coal mining has opened new avenues for growth and played a crucial role in India's path to energy self-reliance. Since the launch of commercial coal auctions on 18 June 2020, the sector has witnessed significant progress. Over ten rounds of successful auctions, 113 coal mines have been allocated with a cumulative peak rated capacity of approximately 257.60 million tonnes per annum. To build on this momentum, the Ministry of Coal has been organising a series of roadshows to engage with industry participants and potential investors.

Following a strong response in Kolkata, the initiative now moves to Mumbai and will later continue to Ahmedabad. These roadshows provide insights into upcoming auctions, policy reforms, ease of doing business measures, and financial incentives aimed at attracting investors. Senior officials from the Ministry of Coal, Coal India Limited, and other public sector undertakings will present key developments and interact with industry leaders to discuss regulatory frameworks and the role of coal in India's energy security.

As the coal sector undergoes major changes, this initiative aligns with the government's vision of Viksit Bharat, focusing on self-reliance in energy and increased private participation in coal mining. The Mumbai roadshow is part of a broader effort to encourage industry collaboration and boost investments. Through these engagements, the Ministry aims to create a transparent and investor-friendly environment that supports growth and innovation while maintaining environmental responsibility.

A key focus of the event will be discussions on technological advancements, sustainability measures, and best practices in coal mining. Participants will explore modern mining techniques, the reclamation of mined-out areas, and initiatives supporting a just transition towards cleaner coal technologies. The discussions will also emphasise India's approach to balancing energy security with responsible resource management, ensuring economic growth is aligned with ecological sustainability.

The Ministry of Coal invites stakeholders, investors, and industry leaders to take part in this event. By fostering collaboration and investment, the roadshow aims to contribute to the development of a resilient and forward-looking coal sector that supports India's economic ambitions while upholding sustainability and innovation.
