Pune: Suzlon Group, India’s leading renewable energy solutions provider, has announced the acquisition of the country’s largest wind energy order, securing a 1,166 MW project from NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewables arm of NTPC Limited. The order will see Suzlon install 370 wind turbine generators, each with a capacity of 3.15 MW, equipped with Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers. The turbines will be deployed across two projects under NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a subsidiary of NGEL, and another project with IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd. in Gujarat.
This order brings Suzlon's total cumulative order book to nearly 5 GW as of 3rd September 2024, marking a significant milestone for the company. Commenting on the development, Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, expressed pride in partnering with NTPC Green Energy Limited for this landmark project, noting that it reaffirms Suzlon's leadership in the wind energy sector and strengthens its position within the public sector utility space.
The project, upon completion, will be the largest wind energy initiative undertaken by a public sector unit in Gujarat, further reinforcing the state’s leadership in renewable energy. This project also contributes significantly towards India's renewable energy goals, supporting NGEL’s target of adding 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.
JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, highlighted the importance of this partnership, emphasising that the collaboration between NGEL and Suzlon is crucial for India’s energy transition. He noted that the project will set a benchmark for future large-scale renewable energy projects in the country and showcase the success of the 'Make in India' initiative.
Under the agreement, Suzlon will not only supply the wind turbines but will also be responsible for project execution, including the erection, commissioning, and post-commissioning operations and maintenance services.
