BHEL C commits to Atmanirbhar Bharat

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a public sector ‘Navratna’ entity in the engineering and manufacturing sector, has announced to create a new vertical called ‘Make In India (MII) Business Development Group’ with the responsibility of identifying products imported by the company as well as the country, which can be developed and manufactured by BHEL itself. It shall also create opportunities for increasing in-house manufacturing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the world is looking at India for investment to find an alternative destination to China. The country has received foreign investment of $20 billion in the year so far. To align with this, BHEL has floated an Expression of Interest (EoI) inviting global manufacturing companies to leverage on BHEL facilities and capabilities to set up a manufacturing base in India.

BHEL has also made offers to extend its services to other companies, thus automatically reducing capital expenditure and efforts of global firms in acquiring land and setting up infrastructure in India. BHEL has also been investing in a wide range of activities like transportation, defence, aerospace, water, oil and gas, etc., to diversify itself.

The way PSUs are coming forward to encourage manufacturing and development of goods in India is highly satisfying. It will be of significant importance in coming years in making India a self-sufficient and self-reliant economy. Such steps shall also inspire other public and private enterprises to align their activities with the idea of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat,’ thus helping local traders and manufacturers in the country in a big way.
