Central Vista Metro link moves ahead as DMRC begins work at Central Secretariat interchange

New Delhi: Construction has begun at the Central Secretariat Metro station for Delhi Metro's upcoming Central Vista Corridor, marking the start of work on one of the most strategically located sections of the network. The project is being taken up under Phase V(A) as an extension of the Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg.

The work was formally launched on Tuesday in the presence of Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal, Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Mohua, and senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Once completed, Central Secretariat will become Delhi Metro's latest triple interchange station. The new underground Magenta Line station will connect directly with the existing Yellow and Violet lines, making travel easier for commuters heading to the Central Vista, government offices, and other key locations in the Lutyens' Delhi area.

The Central Vista Corridor will run for 9.913 km and will be entirely underground. It will have nine stations, Shivaji Stadium, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial, High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha.

The corridor has been planned to improve access to some of the capital's busiest administrative, judicial, and public institutions. It is also expected to provide seamless connectivity to major landmarks, including Bharat Mandapam, India Gate, the National War Memorial precinct, and several central government offices.

According to DMRC, the project is aimed at strengthening metro connectivity in the heart of New Delhi while improving network integration and reducing travel time for daily commuters. The new interchange at Central Secretariat is expected to ease passenger movement across multiple metro corridors and support growing travel demand in the Central Vista area.
