GAIL and AM Green sign MoU for jointly developing renewable energy up to 2.5 GW

New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited and AM Green B.V. (AMG) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on sustainable energy projects in India. This partnership aims to enhance technological innovation while promoting economic growth and environmental sustainability. The MoU was signed by GAIL's Executive Director of Business Development and Exploration & Production and AM Green's Group President.

The focus of the collaboration includes the long-term supply of carbon dioxide (CO2) for producing e-methanol and exploring hybrid renewable energy initiatives throughout India. As part of the agreement, GAIL plans to supply approximately 350 kilotons per annum (KTA) of CO2 from its gas processing plants, which will be used to produce e-methanol, a cleaner alternative that helps reduce carbon emissions and supports a circular economy.

GAIL will also have the option to invest in the proposed e-methanol project, reinforcing a strategic alliance that aligns with both companies' goals in advancing sustainable energy solutions. Additionally, they plan to jointly develop solar and wind hybrid projects, aiming to reach a capacity of up to 2.5 gigawatts across India. These projects, in combination with Greenko's upcoming Pump Storage Projects, are expected to provide round-the-clock power to users, including the e-methanol initiative.

In comments regarding the partnership, GAIL's Director of Business Development expressed enthusiasm about the MoU, highlighting its role in promoting sustainable energy solutions and reducing the country’s carbon footprint. Meanwhile, AMG’s Group President noted that this collaboration positions AM Green as a leader in the clean energy transition, contributing to India's goal of becoming a reliable exporter of green energy solutions and supporting the decarbonization of industries such as shipping, steel, and cement.
