Panaji: The Goa government has joined forces with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to roll out a state-wide network of electric vehicle charging and battery swapping stations. The project aims to strengthen EV infrastructure and push for wider adoption of electric mobility in the state.
Key cities including Panjim, Mapusa, Margao, and Vasco have been identified for setting up the new facilities. Under this arrangement, IOCL will handle both installation and maintenance of these stations. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed the development, adding that IOCL will also provide basic amenities at these locations, such as restrooms, locker rooms, and petrol pumps.
To ease the rollout, the state government has committed to covering 50% of the costs for installing electrical connections at these stations. This is expected to reduce IOCL’s financial burden and speed up the execution of the project.
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, the Chief Minister said the move will help promote green energy and reduce Goa’s carbon footprint. The effort is aimed at making EV use more practical for residents and tourists alike, while also supporting the broader goal of cutting down reliance on fossil fuels.
Once operational, the network is expected to offer better accessibility and convenience for EV users, reinforcing Goa’s position as a cleaner and more sustainable destination.
