NLC India targets 1 MTPA critical mineral mining capacity by FY30

New Delhi: Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC India) is gearing up to participate in upcoming auctions for critical mineral resources, with an ambitious goal of achieving an annual mining capacity of one million tonnes by 2029-30. This strategic move comes in response to the growing demand for critical minerals, which are essential for a variety of applications, including semiconductor manufacturing and renewable energy initiatives like solar panels, wind turbines, and advanced battery technologies.

In a recent report, NLC India highlighted the importance of these minerals in the renewable energy sector, stating, "With recent developments in renewable energy and the strategic significance of critical minerals, we are working towards achieving a mining capacity of 1.0 MTPA by 2029-30." The company plans to leverage its extensive experience in mining operations, which began in 1967, to establish expertise in the critical mineral sector domestically and eventually explore opportunities abroad.

The government's Critical Minerals Mission aims to secure the nation's supply chain for these vital resources by ensuring their availability from both domestic and international sources. NLC India seeks to strengthen the value chain by enhancing technological, regulatory, and financial ecosystems that promote innovation, skill development, and competitiveness in mineral exploration, mining, processing, and recycling.
