Adani Foundation receives ‘Vriksh Mitra’ award for best contribution in social forestry & horticulture

Ahmedabad: Suposhan Sangini team of Adani Foundation has been honoured with ‘Vriksh Mitra’ Award for doing the best work in the field of social forestry and horticulture. The award was given by Lilaben Ankolia, Chairperson, Women and Child Development Commission, Government of Gujarat at Jitpur village of Nanod block. The District Forestation Committee hosted this program in the presence of several dignitaries.

Adani Foundation has been active in various social activities including abolition of malnutrition since 2019. With the motive of giving benefits of such schemes to targeted groups, Adani Foundation has selected 195 women and trained them as ‘Suposhan Sanginis.’

These Sanginis visit villages of Narmada district and provide guidance to mothers and adolescent girls regarding nutrition and health. They also collaborate with Anganwadi workers and representatives of communities for abolition of malnutrition prevalent among children of age up to 5 years.

During the Forest Festival, these ‘Suposhan Sanginis’ have played a vital role in selecting beneficiaries and identifying suitable land for forestation, while ensuring adequate water supply for saplings after plantation, said Adani Foundation in a statement.

These Sanginis are contributing significantly to improve the Environment and Social credentials of Narmada district. They have also provided training to utilise leaves and pods of drum sticks in every village and thus make this practice more remunerative. /BI/
