Mumbai: Students at Rajarshi Shahu Nagar Municipal School in Mahim East, Mumbai, were pleasantly surprised this morning with new desks made from recycled materials. This donation is part of the Go Green with Tetra Pak programme, which promotes sustainability and community spirit through the reuse of Tetra Pak cartons.

The Go Green with Tetra Pak programme, launched in 2010 by Tetra Pak in collaboration with Reliance Retail and managed on the ground by RUR Greenlife, aims to collect over one million used Tetra Pak cartons annually. These cartons are transformed into furniture for underprivileged schools. The latest contribution to Rajarshi Shahu Nagar Municipal School adds to previous donations to institutions such as Pune Vidyarthi Griha in Navi Mumbai and Mahim Police Colony School. Since its inception, the programme has provided over 800 desks and 100,000 other recycled items.

Cassio Simoes, Managing Director of Tetra Pak South Asia, remarked on the initiative’s impact, stating, “Each classroom we help create supports a future where education and sustainability are intertwined. This mission, sustained for over 14 years, is a collective effort that includes our partners and the people of Mumbai. We are committed to nurturing a generation that values sustainability.”

Rajendra Kamath, CFO of Reliance Retail’s grocery division, highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting, “Our partnership with Tetra Pak and RUR Greenlife showcases the difference we can make when working together towards a common goal. This donation underscores our commitment to social awareness and sustainability.”

Manpriti Kaur Anand, Principal of Rajarshi Shahu Nagar Municipal School, expressed her gratitude, saying, “These desks are a significant addition to our school, reminding us of the importance of sustainability in education. We are thankful to all involved in making this possible.”

Monisha Narke, CEO of RUR Greenlife, praised the long-term collaboration, stating, “This initiative highlights the power of sustained partnerships. We are proud to contribute to recycling awareness and drive positive change for both the environment and education.”

Tetra Pak cartons, primarily composed of paper, are recyclable. Over the past two decades, Tetra Pak has developed a robust recycling system in India, collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance recycling efforts. The Go Green with Tetra Pak programme continues to demonstrate the company's commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. /BI
