Andaman Police launches 'DISHA' to guide students towards civil services and defence careers

Mayabunder: In an effort to inspire and prepare students for careers in the Civil Services and Armed Forces, the North & Middle Andaman District Police has launched the ‘DISHA’ initiative. This career guidance program is aimed at empowering students with the knowledge and strategies required to navigate the challenging paths of these professions, giving them a clear vision of what it takes to succeed.

The inaugural session of the DISHA programme was held on 9 September at the SP Office Conference Hall, Mayabunder. A total of 33 students from six schools in Kadamtala and Rangat, GSSS Kadamtala, GSSS Rangat, GSSS Bakultala, PM SHRI GSSS Sabari Junction, PM SHRI GSSS Swadesh Nagar, and GSSS CFO Nallah, participated in the event, eager to gain insights into potential career paths.

The session was led by Superintendent of Police (D), Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, who shared a comprehensive roadmap for students aspiring to enter the Civil Services. She detailed the various stages of preparation, from understanding the structure of exams like the UPSC, to the importance of building a strong foundation in key subjects. Khandelwal also highlighted effective study habits and the need for consistent focus and self-discipline, ensuring students left with practical advice on managing their time and stress during this long and demanding journey.

The session also included a focus on defence careers, with Deputy Commandant Rinson Robinson and Dalbir Singh from the Indian Coast Guard, Mayabunder, guiding students through the process of joining the Armed Forces as officers. They explained the selection criteria, stages of exams such as the NDA, CDS, and AFCAT, and emphasised the physical and mental fitness required to succeed. The officers shared personal experiences, adding depth to their advice, and encouraged the students to maintain determination and perseverance in the face of challenges.

In concluding remarks, Inspector K. Joju from the SP (D) N&MA Office thanked the speakers for their insightful contributions and applauded the students for their enthusiastic participation. He expressed confidence that the DISHA initiative would serve as a key stepping stone for students in the district, helping them explore and pursue fulfilling careers in both civil services and defence.
