East Kameng District Administration organises community clean-up drive to restore Kameng River

Itanagar: As part of the Swacchata Hi Sewa Programme 2024, the East Kameng District Administration, in collaboration with the Kameng River Rejuvenation Club, organised a large-scale cleanliness drive to restore the Kameng River. Supported by the UD & Housing Department and PHE&WS Seppa Sub-division, this initiative brought together hundreds of volunteers from diverse backgrounds, including local NGOs, officials, and residents.

Sachin Rana, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of East Kameng, played a significant role in the process. The event kicked off at the Kucchi Kameng Confluence, where volunteers enthusiastically participated in collecting waste, educating others about responsible waste management, and raising awareness about the importance of maintaining clean waterways.

NGOs like the Seppa Town Colony Development Committee, Langku Kamku, and Yuva Comrades joined forces with the district administration, along with residents of Shantipur Colony and officials from various departments, to make the drive a success.

The East Kameng District Administration has committed to expanding this initiative, with the next phase focusing on cleaning other key tributaries, including the Paccha River, Macha Nallah, and Pagiyawa River. This initiative reflects the administration's dedication to preserving East Kameng’s natural environment and ensuring clean rivers for future generations. /BI
