New Delhi: Akashvani, New Delhi, organised two-day large-scale preventive health check-up camps, Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs, and yoga training sessions for Safai Mitras on October 1-2, 2024 as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign. Free eye, dental, gynaecological, skin, gastrointestinal, and general check-ups were provided by various hospitals for Swachhata Heroes on 30 September and 1 October at Akashvani premises.
Akashvani collaborated with ESIC Hospital and Medical College, Faridabad (NIT), to ensure long-term health benefits for Safai Mitras. ESIC provided free on-the-spot registration, OPD slips for general consultations, and referrals for specialist consultations when necessary. A medical file was created for each Safai Mitra to organise their prescriptions and test reports.
Blood tests were conducted for 200 sanitation workers, security guards, outsourced drivers, and MTS employees at Akashvani premises, free of charge, by Dr. Lal Pathlabs. Additionally, a booth was set up on 1 October to raise awareness about Ayushman Bharat PMJAY and ABHA Card benefits, providing live demonstrations and facilitating fresh enrolments for eligible beneficiaries among Safai Mitras and other Prasar Bharati staff.
A yoga training session was held in collaboration with students from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga to promote the benefits of yoga among sanitation workers. An interactive session on fraud awareness was also organised in association with Kotak Mahindra Bank, with around 50 officials in attendance.
At the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir, female Safai Mitras were provided with free gynaecological check-ups in partnership with Artemis Hospital, Gurugram. This initiative aimed to prioritise women's health among sanitation workers, encouraging them to seek regular medical care.
A free eye test facility was offered by Lawrence & Mayo during the Suraksha Shivir to ensure Safai Mitras have access to essential vision care and achieve 6/6 vision.
Additionally, a ‘Swachhata Selfie Point’ was established at the Akashvani Directorate to promote cleanliness and encourage participation in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Employees and visitors are invited to take selfies at the designated point, sharing them on social media with the hashtag #SwachhataSelfie to inspire others to join the movement and raise awareness about cleanliness.
Akashvani’s initiatives under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign demonstrate a strong commitment to the health and well-being of sanitation workers. By organising preventive health check-up camps, Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivirs, and yoga training sessions, Akashvani promotes physical health, fosters community support among workers, and contributes to building a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
