Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to make history as India’s first airport to offer water taxi facilities, announced Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during a review meeting with the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) on April 24.
This pioneering airport will feature an integrated multi-modal transport system, seamlessly connecting road, rail, metro, and water transport to enhance accessibility for passengers. “Water taxi facility should be provided to this airport. This will be the first international airport in the country to have such a facility. Good parking facilities should be available along with aircraft repair facilities. Road, rail, metro and water transport connectivity works to the airport should be completed on time,” said CM Fadnavis, emphasizing the transformative potential of this initiative.
The Chief Minister further stressed the importance of a smooth and efficient transport network. “A multi-modal transport system should be created from the metro station to the airport. Care should be taken to ensure citizens do not face any inconvenience in this regard. The work being carried out through CIDCO should be completed within the prescribed time limit,” he added.
Beyond transportation, CM Fadnavis highlighted CIDCO’s responsibility to deliver high-quality, affordable housing solutions. “A time limit should also be set in this regard. CIDCO should take the initiative and take action to provide houses to citizens at affordable prices,” he stated, reinforcing the need for excellence and timeliness in housing projects.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport is poised to set a new standard for aviation infrastructure in India, blending innovation, accessibility, and sustainability to serve as a model for future developments.
