Delhi election 2025: Polling date set for February 5; results on February 8

New Delhi: As Delhi gears up for its Assembly elections in 2025, the Election Commission of India has announced the key dates for the electoral process. With the current Assembly's term concluding on February 15, 2025, elections must be held before this date. The polls will take place on February 5, 2025, for the 70 Assembly constituencies, and the results will be declared on February 8, 2025.

The national capital, home to over 1.55 crore voters, will see the election of members to its eighth Assembly. Among the voters, there are 83,49,645 males, 71,73,952 females, and 1,261 third-gender electors. The number of electors has increased by 1.09% over the figures in the draft electoral roll published on October 29, 2024.

A total of 13,033 polling stations will be set up across the city to accommodate voters, including arrangements to assist elderly and disabled individuals. In a significant move, people aged above 85 will be allowed to vote from their homes.

The Election Commission has also announced that over 2 lakh young voters will cast their ballots for the first time in these elections. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, 2025, and the last date for withdrawal of candidates is January 20, 2025. Following the announcement, the model code of conduct has come into effect in the national capital.

While the election campaign intensifies, preparations are being made to ensure smooth access to polling stations and efficient voting arrangements. The Election Commission has assured voters of the tamper-proof nature of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), dismissing any concerns regarding potential manipulation. It also clarified that all claims of tampering with voter lists would be thoroughly investigated, adhering to strict procedures.

This election sees the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) aiming for a third consecutive term, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is working to make significant inroads. The Indian National Congress, contesting independently in this election, is also aiming to capitalise on opportunities in the contest.
