New Delhi: The IndiaAI Datasets Platform, a significant initiative under the government's ₹10,000 crore IndiaAI Mission, is expected to launch by January 2025, according to Nand Kumarum, Chief Executive of the National eGovernance Division (NeGD). Similar to the US-based HuggingFace, this platform will host datasets and AI models, enabling developers to create, train, and deploy their own models.

At an event in New Delhi, Kumarum emphasized the platform’s collaborative approach, stating, “The concept is akin to HuggingFace, where datasets and models are available for developers to build upon.” He noted that the platform will include data from central and state governments, as well as private sector organizations. Kumarum highlighted the challenges of collecting thousands of datasets but assured that a foundational framework would be ready by the end of January.

The IndiaAI Mission, launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in March, comprises six additional pillars: computing capacity, future skills, an innovation center, application development initiatives, startup financing, and safe and trusted AI. The National eGovernance Division (NeGD), which oversees the ministry’s e-governance projects, plays a crucial role in this initiative.

Kumarum also discussed the potential applications of generative AI within the government, including drafting requests for proposals, improving office productivity, and automating aspects of the verification and approval processes for infrastructure projects.
