New Delhi: In a move that could change the way millions of Indians access government and digital services, the Central Government on Tuesday launched a brand-new Aadhaar mobile app that uses Face ID and QR code technology for secure and instant authentication.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, unveiled the app through a post on X (formerly Twitter), calling it a step forward in making Aadhaar more user-friendly, secure, and accessible.
Developed in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the new Aadhaar app integrates facial recognition and artificial intelligence to allow users to verify their identity without the need to carry physical Aadhaar cards or photocopies.
“This is a significant leap in digital identity verification. With just your face and a smartphone, you can now access Aadhaar services anytime, anywhere,” the minister said during the launch.
One of the standout features of the app is its QR code-based instant verification system. By simply scanning the unique QR code, users and service providers can confirm Aadhaar credentials in real-time, a process that’s not only faster but also more secure.
The app is expected to benefit a wide range of users, from students appearing for exams to senior citizens accessing welfare schemes — by eliminating the hassles of documentation and enhancing ease of use.
Officials said the app will soon be available for download on major app platforms, with rollout and awareness campaigns planned across the country to promote its usage.
With digital inclusion being a key pillar of India’s governance and development strategy, the new Aadhaar app marks a major step towards a future where identity is truly paperless, contactless, and convenient.
