Tata Power and Keppel partner to introduce cooling-as-a-service in India

New Delhi: Tata Power and Singapore-based Keppel have announced a collaboration to launch sustainable Cooling-as-a-Service (CaaS) solutions in India. This innovative service will enable businesses and building owners to access energy-efficient cooling systems on a subscription basis, without the need for heavy upfront investments in infrastructure. The initiative is expected to offer substantial energy and cost savings to subscribers.

The partnership aligns with India's Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) and the Smart Cities Mission, focusing on providing cutting-edge cooling solutions in urban areas. By implementing large-scale district cooling systems (DCS) and standalone building systems, Tata Power and Keppel aim to cater to key sectors such as commercial and industrial properties, including airports, IT parks, Special Economic Zones, and data centres.

District Cooling Systems operate through a centralised chilled water processing plant, distributing cooling to multiple buildings via a network of pipes, which can lead to energy savings of up to 40% and a reduction in carbon emissions by up to 50%. Tata Power, a major energy provider in India, will leverage its extensive market knowledge and infrastructure to facilitate the rollout of these solutions, while Keppel will bring its expertise in operating CaaS across Asia.

Tata Power’s involvement will also extend beyond cooling, offering a suite of energy services, including power supply, energy management, e-mobility solutions, and renewable energy options such as solar and wind power. Meanwhile, Keppel’s experience as a leading DCS provider in Singapore, where it serves numerous commercial and retail spaces, will help drive the adoption of these energy-efficient cooling systems in India.
