New Delhi: AIIMS-Delhi recently organised a workshop centred on emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence, aimed at equipping medical professionals with the skills needed to harness AI's transformative potential in healthcare.

Dr. Kanwalpreet Kochhar, who leads the Cognitive Neurophysiology and Nutrition Lab at AIIMS, highlighted that the event, held on October 22, brought together top experts at the intersection of AI and healthcare. “By emphasising practical applications and addressing real-world challenges, we are preparing future healthcare leaders to drive innovation and significantly enhance patient outcomes,” she stated.

Dr. Swadeep Srivastav, founder of the healthcare marketing agency Healthpresso, emphasised that AI marks a fundamental shift in how healthcare is delivered. It offers the ability to analyse vast datasets, uncover hidden patterns, and make informed decisions that improve patient care, he said.

Dr. Srivastav also stressed the importance of ethical responsibility in the deployment of AI, stating, “With this power comes responsibility. We must ensure that AI is used ethically and equitably, addressing biases and privacy concerns to genuinely benefit society.”

Sonia Dosanjh, a scientist at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in Mohali, underlined the significance of technological interventions in healthcare. “AI presents unparalleled opportunities for data-driven decision-making, disease surveillance, and personalised treatment plans. This workshop represents a step toward harnessing these opportunities,” she noted.

The workshop highlighted the necessity for specialised AI applications in healthcare, including the development of a healthGPT that could offer tailored solutions by utilising healthcare-specific data.
