MRPL emerges as largest single location PSU refinery in India

New Delhi: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), based in Karnataka and a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), has achieved the remarkable feat by becoming the single-largest PSU refinery at single location in India for the fiscal year 2022-23.

MRPL processed a record-breaking 17.14 million tonnes (mt) of crude oil during this period, marking the highest-ever throughput processed by any single-location PSU refinery in the nation's petroleum refining history.

With the support of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and its parent organization ONGC, MRPL has effectively bounced back after overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic. The refinery's focus moving forward will be on producing essential petrochemicals while prioritizing environmental protection through renewable energy solutions.

Established as a joint venture refinery in 1988, MRPL has undergone significant expansions over the years, raising its capacity to 15 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). It can process a diverse range of more than 250 different crude types from various regions, making it a vital player in the refining industry.

MRPL's commitment to expanding its petrochemical profile is evident through its aromatic complex, fully integrated within the Mangalore Special Economic Zone. Additionally, the company has plans to extend its retail outlet brand 'HiQ' to 1000 locations in South India in the near future.
