Naveen Srivastava takes charge as director (operations) of POWERGRID

New Delhi: Naveen Srivastava has officially assumed the role of Director (Operations) at Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), effective 8 August 2024. This follows an appointment by the Ministry of Power, marking a significant step in the company’s leadership transition.

POWERGRID, one of the world’s largest power transmission utilities, was established on 23 October 1989 and holds the status of a Schedule ‘A’ Maharatna Public Sector Enterprise. With the Government of India owning 51.34% of the company and the remainder held by institutional investors and the public, POWERGRID has built an impressive portfolio in power transmission, sub-transmission systems, distribution management, load dispatch, and communications, both domestically and internationally.

Naveen Srivastava brings a wealth of expertise to his new position. An accomplished electrical engineer, he graduated with honours in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious National Institute of Technology - Durgapur. He further enhanced his leadership credentials through a General Management Programme at the Management Development Institute in Gurgaon, and the Harvard Manage Mentor programme at Harvard Business School.

With over two decades of experience, Srivastava has been a driving force behind numerous successes in operations, including Operations and Maintenance (O&M), Testing and Commissioning (T&C), and advanced SCADA and communication technologies. His leadership was particularly instrumental in the completion of the renowned underground cabling project in Old Kashi (Varanasi), earning accolades from the Chief Minister and international dignitaries. Srivastava also played a pivotal role in the commissioning of the 765 kV Pooling Substation at Bilaspur and led the adoption of new technologies such as the remote operation of HVDC Rihand-Dadri Link and HVDC Vindhyachal BTB Link. Additionally, his efforts in establishing dynamic stability through STATCOM (+/-300 MVAR) in Lucknow, and centralised monitoring of communication systems for the Regional Load Dispatch system under UNMS, have been widely recognised.

Following Srivastava’s appointment, Ravindra Kumar Tyagi, the Chairman and Managing Director of POWERGRID, has relinquished the additional charge of Director (Operations) that he had been overseeing temporarily since 1 July 2024. Tyagi's management during this interim period was part of a temporary extension granted by the Ministry of Power until a permanent appointment could be made. /BI
