NLC India Ltd secures 810 MW Grid Connected Solar Photovoltaic Power Project in Rajasthan

Jaipur: NLC India Limited, a Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSE) under the Ministry of Coal, has secured a 810 MW Solar PV project capacity from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Nigam Limited (RRVUNL). The company successfully secured the entire 810 MW capacity through a tender issued by RRVUNL in December 2022. This project will be developed at RRVUNL's 2000 MW Ultra Mega Solar Park in Pugal Tehsil, Bikaner District, Rajasthan. The Letter of Intent for this project has been issued by RRVUNL, representing a significant step in NLCIL's commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions.

The land for the project and the power evacuation system connected to the State Transmission Utility (STU) will be provided by RVUNL, which will expedite the project's completion. This marks the largest renewable project undertaken by NLCIL, increasing the total power project capacity in Rajasthan to 1.36 GW, including 1.1 GW of green power. This expansion brings economies of scale and optimized fixed costs.

Given the favorable solar radiation conditions in Rajasthan, the project is expected to achieve a higher Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF), generating more than 50 billion units of green power and offsetting over 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the project's lifespan.

In addition to this project, NLCIL is currently involved in various other solar projects, including a 50 MW solar project on mined-out land, a 200 MW solar project under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) scheme on a pan-India basis, a 300 MW solar project under the CPSU Scheme at Barsingsar in Bikaner District, and a 600 MW solar project at Khavda Solar Project in Bhuj District, Gujarat.

The Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NLCIL, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, stated that the company was the first CPSU to install 1 GW of renewable energy capacity. NLCIL is actively developing 2 GW of renewable energy capacity across India, including this project, with a target to reach more than 6 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, aligning with the Government of India's commitment to augment renewable energy capacity addition.
