Under this program, we had an opportunity to speak to Kanaiya Agrawal, Assistant General Manager for Marketing & Academic Relations at ITM Vocational University. What unique qualities and strengths differentiate your institution from others in the higher education sector? How long has your institution been serving in the higher education sector, and how many branches does it have across India?
ITM Vocational University, Vadodara, was established by the ITM Group of Institutions in Mumbai under the Gujarat Private University Act. In today's rapidly advancing world, new technologies, innovations, and market trends are emerging quickly, making it essential to bridge the gap between industry and academia. This gap can be addressed only through intense industry-academia interaction, equipping the youth with relevant tools and technologies, and fostering a mindset of innovation and entrepreneurship. Since its inception in 1991, the ITM Group has established more than 15 campuses across India, including locations such as Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Vishakhapatnam, Warangal, Nagpur, and an upcoming branch in Noida.
What are some of the most notable achievements and accolades your institution has received in recent years?
In the past three years, the university has successfully placed almost all students in internships and jobs. Additionally, ITM Group of Institutions was awarded Best Higher Education Institution for 2022 by the Mimamsa Edutech Awards. The institution is also a proud member of both the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO) and the World Council of Optometry (WCO).
Can you highlight some of the unique and innovative programmes or courses that your institution offers to students?
One standout programme is the MBA iconnect, which delivers world-class management education through continuous innovation. This programme focuses on developing students to be conceptually strong with excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude. Specialisations are offered in Marketing, Finance, and Human Resource Management. Key features include hands-on assessments with no traditional exams, faculty from esteemed industries, a five-month industry internship, and support for entrepreneurship-oriented studies.
Another significant programme is the BSc in Hospitality and Tourism Management, providing students with diverse career opportunities across the hospitality industry. This comprehensive course includes international internships in Dubai or the USA, industrial exposure in the first two years, and assured placements.
What types of scholarships and financial aid does your institution provide to support students?
Various scholarships are offered to support students, including merit scholarships, early bird discounts, single-parent discounts, defence scholarships, and sibling discounts.
What are some of the most impactful research initiatives currently being undertaken at your institution, and how do they contribute to the academic community and beyond?
Several impactful research initiatives are actively engaged in at ITM Vocational University. For instance, expert lectures on the foundry industry are conducted, and community outreach programs such as "Masoom" at Savli Prathmik Shala empower small children. Other initiatives include CPR training for employees, food distribution activities, cleanliness drives, and workshops on various topics, including environmental awareness and menstrual health. These initiatives contribute not only to the academic community but also positively impact society at large.
How does your institution prepare its students to meet the demands of the new economy and the ever-evolving employment market?
The university emphasises practical learning, with about 60% of the curriculum dedicated to hands-on experience. Programmes include advanced certifications, relevant industrial visits, and expert talks on new technologies and market trends. Additionally, internships are provided to prepare students for the job market, alongside HR conclaves for collaboration with various industries, creating pathways for students' careers.
What are your institution's strategic goals for the future?
ITM Vocational University is committed to creating lifelong learning opportunities for students. The aim is to bridge employability gaps by offering vocational career paths and bridge courses that align with the priorities of the regional economy. The curriculum is designed to meet the skill demands of various sectors, including Engineering, Information Technology, Management, and Life Sciences. Emphasis is placed on internship and project-based learning to develop industry-ready professionals. By collaborating with industries, the curriculum is continuously evolved to meet market requirements, ensuring graduates are prepared to make an immediate impact in their careers.
