Pokhran: The Defense Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with the Indian Army has achieved a significant milestone in the development of the Man Portable Anti-tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) Weapon System. Designed and developed domestically, the MPATGM system has undergone rigorous field evaluations, including multiple missile firing trials aimed at demonstrating its technological prowess and operational superiority. The latest success came in the form of Warhead Flight Trials conducted at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan on April 13, 2024

The comprehensive system comprises the MPATGM itself, along with the launcher, target acquisition system, and fire control unit. These components have been subject to thorough testing to ensure compliance with the General Staff Qualitative Requirements of the Indian Army.

The Warhead Flight Trials were successfully conducted at the Pokhran Field Firing Range, Rajasthan on April 13, 2024. Missile performance and warhead performance were found to be remarkable. During these trials, both missile performance and warhead effectiveness were found to be exceptional. Importantly, the penetration trials of the Tandem Warhead System have demonstrated its capability to defeat modern armor-protected Main Battle Tanks, a crucial aspect in contemporary warfare scenarios.

Notably, the MPATGM system boasts advanced features including day/night and top attack capabilities, enhancing its effectiveness in various operational conditions. The incorporation of a dual-mode seeker further elevates its potential in tank warfare, offering versatility and precision.

The successful development and demonstration of the MPATGM system mark a significant milestone towards achieving self-reliance in advanced defense technology. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has lauded the efforts of DRDO and the Indian Army, recognizing this achievement as a crucial step in strengthening India's defense capabilities.

Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, has also extended congratulations to the teams involved in these trials. With these accomplishments, the MPATGM system is now poised for Final User Evaluation Trials, paving the way for its induction into the Indian Army and bolstering the country's defense preparedness. /BI/
