New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held a telephonic conversation with Australian House of Representatives Speaker Milton Dick on Thursday, congratulating him on his re-election and expressing gratitude for Australia's support following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

“I congratulate you on behalf of Parliament of India on your re-election as the Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives. My best wishes to you for your new tenure,” Birla said during the call.

Birla conveyed India’s appreciation for Australia’s expression of solidarity after the Pahalgam incident and its support in the global fight against terrorism. He emphasised the importance of international unity against terrorism, saying, “The world must speak in one voice to stamp out all forms of terrorism, wherever they exist.”

During the conversation, Birla also referred to the strong ties between the leadership of the two nations, highlighting the rapport between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. He said India looked forward to welcoming Albanese later this year for the Quad and Bilateral Summits.
