India has chosen to be part of the solution in sustainability and is changing faster than before: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, during his keynote address at the 13th Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) India Annual Conference & Expo 2024 in New Delhi, stated that sustainability is an area where India has actively chosen to be part of the solution, and the country is now navigating change faster than ever before.

Speaking on the theme of the conference, “India Now: Navigating Change,” Goyal highlighted India’s advances in green hydrogen, green ammonia, and enhanced energy storage, which will collectively aid in combating climate change while reducing the country’s crude oil import bill, thereby lowering trade deficits and the need for foreign exchange. He emphasised that India's move towards a circular economy, electric mobility, renewable energy production, and supplying energy to the rest of the world will improve the quality of life for both India and the global community.

Goyal further noted that the government’s bold decisions, its drive to push technology for the well-being of citizens, and its commitment to accountability will help India achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

He highlighted India’s significant economic transformation, marked by the lowest decadal inflation, a rapid increase in foreign exchange reserves, and overall economic growth, earning the country the reputation of being the “Trusted Partner of the World.” Referring to India’s demographic advantage, Goyal pointed out that the government’s efforts to provide essential infrastructure, including roads, power, and digital connectivity, are now reaching the most marginalised sections of society, preparing a youth-driven nation for the future. "This is the India of today," he said.

Reflecting on India’s G20 theme of “One World, One Family and One Future,” Goyal noted India’s journey from being one of the fragile five economies to becoming the fifth-largest economy in the world. He said that India has now become the preferred investment destination, with today's progress laying the foundation for tomorrow's success. He added that India's strong macroeconomic foundation and the nation’s shift in mindset to think big align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and mission for the future.

Goyal also highlighted India's leadership in providing low-cost smartphones, data, and managing large-scale digital transactions more efficiently than any other country. He expressed confidence in India's ability to lead the world in 6G technology, adding, “We hope to deliver and roll out 6G before the rest of the world.”
