New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal today launched the CII Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) and Regulatory Affairs portal, designed to provide insights into India’s business environment and allow users to submit and track suggestions for improvement. The portal was launched at the 2nd Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Conference on Ease of Doing Business in New Delhi. The platform aims to offer updates on key initiatives related to Ease of Doing Business from both the government and CII. With a dedicated member dashboard, users can track progress and submissions in real-time, ensuring transparency, accountability, and timely resolution of concerns.
Speaking at the event, Goyal said that the Union government believes in cooperative federalism and is working to make life easier for businesses and citizens. He urged industry and state government representatives to embrace new ways of working, emphasising that a change in mindset can have a significant impact on businesses.
The Minister reiterated that the government’s National Single Window System (NSWS), a guide for investors to identify and apply for necessary approvals, requires input from the industry. He stressed that unless industry engages with the NSWS, uses it to obtain licences, and provides feedback on improving the system, the initiative will not succeed.
On the Jan Vishwas 2.0 Bill, Goyal stated that the government is actively looking to decriminalise 300 more laws. He encouraged CII to help sensitise its members to respect the spirit of the law, pointing out that exploiting legal loopholes for profit harms the economy and Ease of Doing Business.
Goyal also highlighted the need for technological upgrades in state and central government portals to make them more agile, faster, smarter, and modern. He addressed the issue of misinformation and urged the industry to recognise problem areas and implement simple changes that can have a nationwide impact.
The Minister urged stakeholders at the event to work three times faster, harder, and more effectively to help India become the third-largest economy in the next three years. He explained that the combined efforts of the government, industry bodies, and stakeholders could bring significant improvements in business and legal processes. Emphasising the importance of feedback, he stated that collaboration between the government and stakeholders would positively impact the Ease of Doing Business.
Goyal encouraged CII to develop a tangible, time-bound action plan and engage with industries to commit to supporting Indian businesses for economic progress. He expressed hope that the industry body would serve as a bridge between stakeholders and the government in easing regulations and expanding businesses.
