Chandigarh: State Bank of India’s Chandigarh Circle marked the 80th Independence Day with a flag-hoisting ceremony and a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative focused on supporting the education of girl students.
As part of the celebrations, SBI presented 25 bicycles to girl students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector-8B, Chandigarh. The initiative is aimed at making their daily commute easier and supporting them in continuing their education with greater convenience and confidence.
Amaresh Kumar Jha, Chief General Manager, SBI Chandigarh Circle, hoisted the National Flag at the bank’s Local Head Office in the presence of senior officials, staff members, and students and teachers from the school. The gathering also joined in singing Vande Mataram and the National Anthem.
Addressing the gathering, Amaresh Kumar Jha congratulated everyone on the occasion and spoke about SBI’s connection with the aspirations and everyday needs of millions of Indians. He said, “Whether a farmer needs assistance for his crop, youth wants to start his first business, a family wants to build their own home, a student wants to pursue higher education, or a senior citizen wants to keep their savings secure – SBI stands with them at every step, in one way or another.”
He also highlighted the bank’s contribution to creating employment opportunities and supporting improvements in people’s living standards.
The bicycle distribution formed the key community-focused initiative of the Independence Day programme, linking the celebrations with SBI’s broader CSR efforts in education and social development. By supporting mobility for girl students, the initiative seeks to help them attend school more easily and continue their studies.
The event also featured cultural performances by the Ladies Club, SBI staff members and their family members, adding to the patriotic spirit of the celebrations.
The programme brought together SBI employees and the school community, with the bicycle distribution highlighting the bank’s focus on using its CSR initiatives to support education and create opportunities for young students.
