Guwahati: Vedanta Group has contributed ₹7 crore to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) to support flood relief and rehabilitation efforts in Assam as the state continues to deal with the aftermath of devastating floods.

The contribution comes as the Assam government, led by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, continues rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations across flood-affected districts.

Acknowledging the contribution on X, the Chief Minister thanked Vedanta Group and its Chairman, Anil Agarwal, saying, “Shri Anil Agarwal ji has long been a passionate advocate of Assam’s growth story, with the Vedanta Group making significant investments in our State.

As Assam faces this devastating flood, Vedanta has once again stepped forward with a contribution of Rs 7 crore towards relief and rehabilitation.

We are deeply grateful to Shri Anil Agarwal and the Vedanta Group for standing with the people of Assam. This generous gesture reflects his enduring belief in giving back to society.”

The floods have affected lakhs of people across Assam, disrupting livelihoods and damaging homes, agricultural land and public infrastructure. As the state administration continues immediate relief operations while preparing for long-term rehabilitation, support from industry has complemented the government’s efforts to assist affected communities.

Vedanta’s presence in Assam extends beyond its energy business. Through its flagship Nand Ghar initiative, the company is modernising Anganwadi centres into technology-enabled community hubs that provide early childhood education, nutritious meals, primary healthcare services and skill development opportunities for women. The initiative aims to strengthen the delivery of essential services at the grassroots while empowering women and improving the health and learning outcomes of children. Several Nand Ghars have already been established in Assam, reflecting Vedanta’s commitment to inclusive development in the state.

The company has also expanded its energy footprint in Assam through its exploration and production operations. Vedanta Group has been producing natural gas from its Hazarigaon field since 2023, the first Discovered Small Field (DSF) in the Northeast to commence production. The gas is being supplied to nearby tea estates to facilitate a shift from coal to cleaner fuel and is also powering 100 CNG buses in Guwahati as part of the state’s clean mobility initiative.

Speaking earlier about Assam’s potential, Agarwal had said, “Assam is abundant in natural resources and has the potential to become the world’s mega basin and India’s energy production hub. We are poised to play a pivotal role in Assam’s sustainable growth and development.”

Alongside its investments in the energy sector, Vedanta has continued to support biodiversity conservation, cultural preservation and community development initiatives in Assam, reflecting its long-term association with the state’s growth and development.
