Patna: In a decisive step forward to enhance solar power capacity in the state and significantly reduce carbon footprint, the Bihar State Power Generation company Limited on Tuesday signed an agreement with Larson & Turbo for the 185 MW solar energy and 254 MWh battery storage system. The Rs 1470 cr plant is one of the largest integrated Solar & Battery Energy Storage projects for L&T and BSPGCL in India.
Project Implementation
As per the agreement, L&T will complete this project within 18 months from the date of the work order issuance at a cost of Rs 1,470 crore. Post-commissioning, L&T will also be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the project for the next ten years at a cost of Rs 105 crore. The construction of the boundary wall at the Kajra project site is progressing rapidly.
This project will not only meet the state's energy needs but also realize the vision of clean and green energy. It is a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint and achieving sustainable development goals. The use of solar energy will decrease dependence on fossil fuels and have a positive impact on the environment.
Bihar Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said, “This project is a milestone in our commitment towards reducing the carbon footprint in the state and generate clean energy.”
He further gave instructions to conduct surveys for the possibilities of solar energy production on barren hills in places like Rajgir and Gaya.
Principal Secretary Energy & CMD of BSPHCL Sanjeev Hans said, “This is an ambitious project and shall be completed in a record 18 months. The Kajra project signifies the rapid strides being made by Bihar towards achieving the Net Zero goals of India by 2070.”

Approximately 200,000 solar street lights have been installed, and the work will be completed in the next year. Under the Agricultural Roadmap, efforts are underway to charge about 2900 agricultural feeders with solar energy, for which 800 MW of solar energy will be produced. He also mentioned the renewable energy policy, which includes green energy, green ammonia, green hydrogen, and electric vehicles.
The event, held at Vidyut Bhawan, was chaired by the Minister of Energy, Bijendra Prasad Yadav. Present at the event were the Principal Secretary of the Energy Department and CMD of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, Sanjeev Hans, MD of SBPDCL and BSPGCL, Mahendra Kumar, MD of NBPDCL and BSPTCL, Dr. Nilesh Ramchandra Deore, and OSD of the Energy Department, Amrisha Bains. /BI
