Ahmedabad: GHCL Foundation, the CSR arm of GHCL Limited, has trained over 5,500 young people across rural Gujarat through its network of Vocational Training Institutes (VTIs), helping them acquire industry-relevant skills and find employment in diverse sectors. The initiative has also seen strong participation from women, with 65% of trainees being girls.
Since setting up its first VTI in Jafrabad, Amreli district, in 2016, the Foundation has expanded to multiple locations including Sutrapada in Gir Somnath, Port Victor in Amreli, Gadu and Kaj in Junagadh, Talala and Prachi in Gir Somnath, and Mota Layja in Kutch. These centres are run in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and contribute to the Government of India’s Skill India Mission.
The Foundation’s training model follows a 360° approach, combining technical education with soft skills and personal development to prepare students for long-term employability. Training is provided in areas such as BPO, electrical assistance, nursing, sewing, and fitting & fabrication.
Graduates from these institutes have been placed in well-known organisations including Adani Group, Arvind Mills, Hyundai Motors India Limited, BKT Tyres, and Aayush Hospitals. Their average monthly salaries range between Rs 9,500 and Rs 16,500, with a high rate of job retention among trainees.
NN Radia, Chairman of GHCL Foundation, said, “As a responsible corporate citizen, GHCL is committed to community development in the areas where we operate. Our VTIs are founded on the belief that skills are the strongest currency for youth empowerment. By creating industry-ready talent, we are enhancing livelihoods while contributing to India’s skilled workforce. The successful placement of our students demonstrates the power of sustained commitment and strong community partnerships.”
Courses in BPO, electrical assistance, and nursing have shown the highest placement rates, reflecting strong alignment between training modules and industry demand.
The initiative’s success is supported by collaborations with more than 350 companies and hospitals, including Welspun, Just Dial, Sky Textiles, Adani Solar, German Calibration Lab, Varmora Tiles, Balaji Wafers, Hyundai, Harshal Engineering, BKT, and Shaktiman. These partnerships help keep the curriculum current and ensure that students are equipped with skills relevant to employers’ needs.
GHCL Foundation continues to expand its vocational training efforts across Gujarat, enabling more young people—particularly women—to secure sustainable livelihoods and contribute to inclusive growth in their communities.
