New Delhi: The development of horticulture at Nokrek Region, East Garo Hills, Meghalaya by the North Eastern Council (NEC) and MDoNER is going to give a big boost to direct and indirect employment generation in the surrounding areas.
North Eastern Council (NEC) and MDoNER are implementing the project for horticulture development at Nokrek Region, East Garo Hills, Meghalaya through the Department of Horticulture, Government of Meghalaya at a total cost of Rs 439.94 lakh with the state contributing Rs 44 lakh out of the total project cost.
The project aims at providing direct and indirect employment to the villagers and surrounding areas. By practicing multiple cropping there will be increased cropping intensity which results in better land use and increased productivity.
The hi-tech green house and drip irrigation system will be introduced in the area. It will promote agriculture entrepreneurship thereby reducing the number of middlemen in marketing. Hence, it envisages providing direct and indirect income generation among the farmers. /BI/
