Hubballi: India has set a new global benchmark in railway infrastructure as the Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Hubballi Junction in Karnataka has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the longest railway platform in the world. Stretching across 1,507 metres, the platform has become a new landmark achievement for Indian Railways.
The extended length of the platform enables two long trains to halt simultaneously without affecting each other’s movement, improving both passenger convenience and operational efficiency.
The platform was built as part of the South Western Railway’s yard remodelling project, designed to streamline train operations at Hubballi, one of India’s key railway junctions. The station serves as a major intersection for routes connecting Bengaluru, Mumbai, Goa, and Hyderabad.
Constructed at a cost of several crores of rupees, the platform stands longer than most Olympic running tracks. It features upgraded amenities for passengers and improved train-handling systems, ensuring smoother arrivals and departures.
The expansion at Hubballi reflects Indian Railways’ broader effort to enhance capacity and modernise its infrastructure. By accommodating longer trains and easing congestion, the upgraded junction is expected to play a crucial role in improving connectivity across southern and western India.
