New Delhi: NBCC (India) Limited has completed the development of the Nalanda Hostel, a dedicated residential facility for married research scholars at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Hauz Khas, strengthening academic infrastructure at one of the country’s premier institutions.
The inauguration of Nalanda Hostel Phase II took place on 26 December 2025 in the presence of Basuri Swaraj, Member of Parliament, and Satish Upadhyay, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Delhi. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi; Prof. Deepti Ranjan Sahoo, Dean (Infrastructure); Prof. Amit Gupta, Associate Dean; and Rajeev Kumar, Chief General Manager, NBCC, along with heads of departments, senior faculty members and officials from IIT Delhi and NBCC.
NBCC was entrusted with the redevelopment of the Nalanda Hostel on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction basis. The project was executed on the footprint of the existing structure, which was demolished prior to construction, ensuring optimal space utilization while integrating modern design elements and sustainable construction practices. Phase II of the project has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 36.61 crore, with a built-up area of approximately 1,07,000 square feet.
The hostel is a G+7 storeyed structure developed in two phases, with a total built-up area of around 1,75,700 square feet. It offers 245 residential units comprising one-room and two-room accommodations, specifically designed to meet the needs of married research scholars. The building is equipped with seven lifts to facilitate smooth vertical mobility and accessibility.
Designed to offer a comfortable and functional living environment, each residential unit features modular kitchens, wooden wardrobes, vitrified flooring in rooms and granite flooring in kitchens. Corridors and staircases are finished with granite. The facility is equipped with RO water supply, CCTV surveillance, fire alarm and firefighting systems, public address systems, emergency lighting with UPS backup, and LED lighting in rooms and balconies. Digital infrastructure includes Wi-Fi, LAN connectivity, and television and telephone ports. Sustainability measures such as rainwater harvesting systems and energy-efficient BLDC fans have also been incorporated.
The completion of the Nalanda Hostel marks another milestone in NBCC’s efforts to deliver modern, sustainable and future-ready infrastructure for leading educational institutions. The new facility is expected to significantly enhance the residential experience of married research scholars at IIT Delhi and support the institute’s ongoing focus on academic excellence and research advancement.
