NCB Mumbai steps up awareness drive for a drug free India

Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai Zonal Unit carried out an extensive three-day drug awareness campaign between August 14 and 16 as part of the nationwide initiative to build a “Drug Free India.” The campaign included outreach events, training sessions, and public awareness drives across schools, railway stations, and public landmarks in the city.

On August 14, a training session was held for around 75 to 80 Customs officers at Mumbai International Airport. The session covered the provisions of the NDPS Act, key judgments, and case studies, with inputs from senior NCB officials.

On Independence Day, NCB Mumbai conducted awareness programmes at Takshashila School in Ulhasnagar and at Kalyan Railway Station. At the school, nearly 300 students interacted with NCB staff and discussed the importance of youth participation in building a drug-free society. At Kalyan, passengers and the public were sensitised to the dangers of drug use and trafficking.

On August 16, NCB Mumbai reached out to the public at two of the city’s busiest spots. At Gateway of India, a street play (nukkad natak) and awareness drive highlighted the damage drug consumption and trafficking cause to society. At CST Railway Station, commuters were engaged in a mass awareness programme against drug abuse.

Through these efforts, NCB Mumbai reinforced the importance of collective action involving enforcement agencies, students, and the public to combat drug abuse and trafficking. The campaign formed part of the larger national movement led by the Narcotics Control Bureau to spread awareness and strengthen community involvement in the fight against drugs.
