Dehradun: Rescuing a trapped Himalayan black bear or for that matter any wild animal may appear to be a routine exercise to us. It’s, however, not! Conservation of wild animals and species is directly linked to the survival of life on the Earth.
Every act of rescuing or saving a wild animal should be applauded. Kudos to team of Rudraprayag Forest Division (RFD) in Uttarakhand who responded to an SOS call and rescued a trapped Himalayan black bear!
“Got the information about a Himalayan Black Bear being trapped in a snare wire trap in a remote area of #Rudraprayag FD yesterday afternoon! The animal was strangulated near its abdomen and was struggling! Acting urgently on the information, the team of Rudraprayag FD reached the site and started the rescue operation! The terrain was extremely challenging, adding to the risk,” shared District Forest Officer (DFO) Vaibhav Singh on his Twitter handle.
“After successful chemical immobilization of the animal, the wire trap was finally cut much to the relief of everyone. The animal was then shifted in a cylindrical cage, especially designed for Asiatic black bears amidst the curious crowd of onlookers all eager to get a glimpse of Bhaalu,” Singh further said.
“After giving primary first aid, the animal was successfully released back into the wild! Every rescue is different and comes with own set of unique challenges, preparedness, planning and leadership are ultimately what decides the outcome,” Vaibhav shared.
Why wild animals are important for us? They are the key to preserving biodiversity, which is so important for humans and the health of ecosystem. Biodiversity allows us to live healthy and happy lives, and provides us with an array of foods and materials.
Without a diversity of pollinators, plants, soils, and wild species, our supermarkets would have a lot less produce. And hence the need for wildlife conservation so that we are able to maintain healthy and balanced natural ecosystem! Remember human life is not possible without wildlife! /BI/
